The Suncoast Mental Health Counselors Association (SMHCA) is a regional chapter under the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association (FMHCA), our state chapter and under AMHCA, the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), our national chapter. Both SMHCA and FMHCA reflect the values of AMHCA, which leads the efforts in advancing mental health. Your support for these organizations helps strengthen our collective mission and uphold the principles we share.

The Suncoast Mental Health Counselors Association provides a means for mental health counselors in this district to work towards common goals, including but not limited to promoting the profession of mental health counseling; increasing the visibility and respect accorded to the profession; fostering professional identity and development; providing education and training opportunities to enhance the quality of services offered by members; promoting legislation that recognizes and advances the profession; addressing issues of discrimination and client advocacy; promoting an alliance with other organized mental health professionals who share common goals and interests; and working for the general good of mental health counselors.
SMHCA is committed to promoting Mental Health Counseling Services in the highest ethical manner to historically marginalized communities. We are dedicated to creating a more equitable and inclusive environment that fosters stronger connections and a sense of belonging.
